Water Barrier, Shields and Fire Protection for Marine Cables
Aluminium-copolymer, water-blocking, 1070A aluminium and mica for manufacturers of submarine and shipboard cables
Marine-sector cables operate under the most demanding conditions: salt-water immersion, hydrostatic pressure, laying and installation stresses, and on-board fire-safety requirements. OR64 supplies the materials needed to build cables with hermetic water-ingress barriers, metallic shields offering impact and compression resistance, and fire protection where standards demand it. Permanent stock in Barcelona and slitting to the required width.
Aluminium-Copolymer for Hermetic Barrier
Aluminium-copolymer provides a hermetic barrier against water ingress, short-circuit protection as a return path, and impact and compression resistance in submarine cables. The heat-activated copolymer bonds to both the aluminium and to LDPE, LLDPE, MDPE, HDPE and halogen-free polyolefin jackets. Available with copolymer on one or both sides.
Water-Blocking Tapes
Longitudinal water blocking
Swellable tapes block the longitudinal advance of water when an insulation fault occurs. The superabsorbent polyacrylate is activated by moisture, swells and seals the ingress point. The semiconductive version — with corrosion inhibitor — adds partial-discharge control at positions between layers in high-voltage cables.
Water-Blocking (CDZD)
Longitudinal water blocking. Superabsorbent polyacrylate on non-woven polyester. Replaces flooding compounds.

Water blocking + partial-discharge control. Double-sided semiconductive with corrosion inhibitor. For high-voltage cables.

1070A aluminium for MV/HV and submarine cables
1070A aluminium is used as a metallic shield in medium- and high-voltage cables: short-circuit current management, effective earthing and mechanical protection. In submarine cables it provides impact and compression resistance during laying and operation. Elongation ≥15% allows the material to withstand forming and cabling without cracks.
Mica Tapes for Fire Protection
Circuit integrity for maritime safety
Cables on board ships require fire protection in line with maritime safety standards. Mica tapes make it possible to build cables that retain their function at temperatures up to 1000°C. Halogen-free and free of toxic gases. Taping service available with 80 km/day capacity.
