Precision spooling for the cable industry
Spooling converts tapes from pad format to spool format with traverse winding (TWS) or step-to-step winding (STS). This conversion is required when the taping machine needs side feeding instead of axial unwinding. We process materials from our stock or customer-supplied rolls.

Winding types
Traverse Wound Spool (TWS)
Traverse woundThe tape winds diagonally, crossing from one side of the spool to the other. When unwinding, the tape exits without residual twist because each pass compensates the previous one.
When is it needed?
Helical taping where tape is applied in a spiral around the conductor. If fed from a pad, the tape would accumulate one twist turn per unwound turn, causing wrinkles and defective taping.
Step to Step Spool (STS)
Step to step woundThe tape winds in parallel layers, advancing laterally layer by layer. Maintains more uniform tension throughout unwinding.
When is it needed?
Applications where tension variation affects the result, such as very thin tapes or processes where taping pressure must be constant.

Technical note:
Spools require special handling attention to avoid lateral damage to the product. Wound material can be damaged if the spool receives impacts on the flanks during transport or storage.
